Queen’s Gettin’ Lit

Queens Gettin’ Lit! (QGL!) is a program and curriculum based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its purpose is to form a community of Black girls and provide them with a space to develop literacy skills while giving them exposure to positive Black history and culture, and empower their sense of self.  The program and curriculum exposes Black girls to literary content that reflects Black history and cultural heritage experiences.  Students in this program get an opportunity to learn, develop, and practice literacy and critical thinking skills to complete projects.  QGL! nurtures girls’ self-confidence and empowers them with reading comprehension strategies and skills they will use in the classroom.
