About the company

Yaqueline y Su Sabor Cubano offers aboriginal criollo Cuban food and Cuban music in the San Francisco Bay Area. 98% of our products are locally sourced, organic, & sustainable – with options for gluten-free, non-GMO, soy sauce-free, vegan, and vegetarian.

Challenge

Yaqueline Martinez arrived in the U.S. in 2009 from Cuba with the intention of continuing her career as a computer technician. However, the challenge of transferring her credentials over to the U.S. market while simultaneously learning English and raising two young children led her to explore entrepreneurship as an alternative path. Yaqueline had always received rave reviews for the delicious traditional Afro-Cuban food she made. The more she cooked, the greater the interest from her friends and neighbors grew. When she discovered Renaissance, she turned to us for help in launching her business, Yaqueline y Su Sabor Cubano.

Result

Yaqueline became one of our most diligent clients, completing our business planning courses, specialized workshops, and several hours of personalized consulting. Yaqueline obtained her business license and catering permit. In addition, she received a start-up loan. Within a short period of time she created a website, developed a social media following and grew her clientele. During the pandemic, she has been able to pivot her business model from catering large events to making individual meals to and continue operating. She is more determined than ever to continue growing her business and sharing her Afro-Cuban culture with the East Bay community.
