We are a seeking an Accounting Associate to process AP, journal entries, reconciliations, and related accounting duties. We are a thriving $6.7M nonprofit that promotes entrepreneurship for lower income people. We offer hybrid (partially remote) work, excellent benefits, and compensation at $80,000 – $85,000/year. Our ideal candidate will have at least two years related experience, be highly detail oriented, and be eager to learn and contribute to something special.

The result: transformed lives, sustainable jobs, economic vitality, and vibrant neighborhoods. Based in SanFrancisco (SoMa), we have additional program sites (Richmond, San Francisco’s Bayview District, South San Francisco, San Mateo, San Jose, and East Palo Alto), and we provide services throughout the Bay Area. Our diverse funding pool includes fees for services, 45 government grants, corporate and foundation grants, and contributions from individuals.

Accountant

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Our 4-person Finance & Accounting team is based in our San Francisco South of Market (SOMA) office, and we work 3 days per week in that location. Renaissance tracks expenses across 45 government grants (federal, state, and local), plus corporate and foundation grants. The Accounting Associate will be responsible for:
  • Accounts payable
  • Journal Entries
  • Reconciling assigned accounts
  • Assisting with bank transactions
  • Support and reporting for month-end
  • Preparing auxiliary schedules for auditing purposes
  • Supporting internal controls
  • Assisting with grant invoicing and other aspects of Finance and Accounting as needed.
  • Contributing to evaluation of current methods and processes inclusive of process development and improvement.

Key Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be inspired by the Renaissance mission, and will bring accounting savvy, a sense of humor, and a passion to be part of a highly productive team. Key Qualifications include:
  • At least 2 years related accounting experience demonstrating sound accounting knowledge and success working collaboratively in an accounting team.
  • Commitment to working 2-3 days/week together in the SF office (near BART). Other days may be worked from home or from one of our 5 bay area locations.
  • Familiarity with corporate and non-profit finance; work with government grant requirements preferred
  • Non-profit or grant accounting experience is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and technical accounting skills.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or other similar accounting software is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office applications. Proficiency with Google Drive, Bill.com, or Monday.com is a plus.
  • Experience and appreciation for working collaboratively with non-finance colleagues in problem-solving, building efficiencies and keeping a dynamic and busy accounting team running smoothly.
  • AA in Accounting, Finance, or Management. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
