HR for the New Economy is intended as a four-session series to help you make sense of Human Resources for Small Business. We know that the economy has changed since COVID and we constantly hear that “People don’t want to work anymore.” What can you as a small business do to protect yourself and your employees? How can you recruit better? How can you ensure that your employees can be successful? What are you doing to make your place of work an attractive one?
We address this in four sessions and we encourage you to attend all four. However, you will need to register separately; there are different Zoom links for each.

This is SESSION 1: Hire Safely – First Steps for Small Business Employers, presented by the San Francisco Community Business Law Center.
Creating a fair, positively empowering and rewarding environment for your employees while managing the legal risks and obligations of being an employer in California is a tough balancing act for small-scale employers even in a good economy. Now, Covid-19 and an economic recession are adding to the challenge. This workshop will provide a general introduction to labor and employment law from the EMPLOYER perspective, and point you to resources that support the next steps in your business plan during these difficult times. Although taught by an experienced business attorney, this class does not constitute legal advice.
There is a new way to register! You can now register using your client profile. By setting up a client profile, you will not have to fill out the same personal information for each workshop you register for, making it faster and easier in the long run!
a) If you already have a Client Portal Profile, click the Register button below.
- In the Client Portal, go to the Calendar tab (top left) and select HR for the New Economy Session 1 (Jan 18, 2022), click enroll, answer the questions, and submit! You will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link.
b) If you don’t have a Client Portal profile, create one at this link. Make sure to use the same email address you have used in the past with Renaissance. You may change it later, but this allows our system to recognize you.
If you already have an intake form on file, you’ll see the Calendar tab in the top left.
If you do not, you will need to fill one out before you can see the Calendar tab. It may also ask you to update your information. The user interface isn’t perfect, so make sure to scroll up and keep clicking “Continue” or “Sign” in order to complete the forms. Once the Calendar tab is visible, you can register by going to your profile’s calendar tab and selecting HR for the New Economy Session 1 (Jan 18, 2022), hit enroll, answer the questions and submit! You will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link.
