We are excited to let you know that Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center in partnership with the Contra Costa CDBG has started a Contra Costa County* Micro-Enterprise Relief Fund. The  Contra Costa County Micro-Enterprise Relief Fund offers grants to Contra Costa County micro-businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program aims to provide relief to micro-enterprises in order to help them survive this crisis and to maintain the provision of goods and services for Contra Costa County residents.

For the purposes of this fund, we define a micro-enterprise as a for-profit entity with:

  • A maximum of 5 employees (including owner)

  • Less than $250,000 in annual revenue

  • Registered, in good standing with, and operating in Contra Costa County cities except for Walnut Creek, Concord, Pittsburg, and Antioch*

This Relief Fund will provide working capital grants of $1,000 – $10,000. Grants can be used to cover costs such as COVID-19 precaution supplies (PPE), safety remodeling (plexiglass, spacing tape, construction labor), facade improvements (parklets) and signage, online platform fees, and social media marketing to further online sales, commercial rents, employee salaries, and other operating costs.


  • Be an existing micro-enterprise with up to 5 employees (including owner)
  • Have a business operating in Contra Costa County except for Walnut Creek, Concord, Pittsburg, and Antioch
  • If the applicant lives outside of the county, the business must be a brick and mortar in eligible cities of the county
  • Have a 2021 city business license
  • Have a DUNS number (or able to obtain one prior to grant receipt)
  • Be able to show their business financials from 2019 or 2020 (tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, POS reports, quarterly taxes)
  • Have a household income (2019 or 2020) that is low to moderate-income (Based on HUD guidelines)
  • Be directly impacted by COVID-19


  • Operating one of the following types of businesses: adult entertainment, liquor, cannabis, franchise
  • Gig-workers: Uber, Instacart, etc.
  • Received over $25,000 in PPP or EIDL loan/grants (if so, grants must be used for different expenses)
  • Received a CCC CDBG grant in the first round


  • Purchasing technology (i.e. laptops, printer, point of sale system)
  • COVID-19 precaution supplies (PPE)
  • Safety remodeling (plexiglass, spacing tape, construction labor)
  • Facade improvements and signage
  • Online platform fees and social media marketing to further online sales
  • Commercial rents (must provide business lease)
  • Operational expenses (business brick and mortar utilities)
  • Employee salaries (must provide third party payroll vendor, 941 Form or W3 IRS Form)
  • Funds cannot be used to pay debt or loans.

You can request anywhere between $1,000-$10,000.

Please note that if your application is approved, you will be asked to submit the following documentation in order to receive the grant.

  • DUNS number
  • Copy of your city business license
  • Proof of household income (2019 or 2020 IRS tax returns)
  • Employees’ proof of household income (if applicable)
  • Documentation of your business financial statements from 2019 or 2020 (tax returns, pay stub, quarterly taxes, annual bank statements)
  • Renaissance Client Intake Form
  • W-9 Form

You will be asked to send proof of purchases for how the grant was spent 3 months after receiving funds.

**The CDBG’s Urban County’s eligible area is the entire County, less the cities of Antioch, Concord, Pittsburg, and Walnut Creek, which administer independent CDBG programs. Learn more here.
